I found this door. It is beautiful. It is awesome.
But let me explain. Our town has "free" (meaning we pay for it in our property tax) large item pick up once a month. Set it on the curb and they come by with the heavy machinery and haul it away. I love this service. It's nice to have, but more importantly, you can find some awesome stuff by the side of the road for absolutely free. Like this door.
My ultimate plan is to banish all uninteresting slab doors from my house. I envision replacing the screen with frosted plexiglass. I hauled this bad boy (solid wood!) into the car myself, and hauled it out of the car into the house. And--!
It doesn't fit. Anywhere. Not even with trimming. We'd have to trim so much we would lose the integrity of the door. >:(
But I love the door. I said, "It could just be decorative?" and Mateo said, "I know! We can hang it randomly on a wall and it will be like Harry Potter." Me, "?" Mateo, "You know walls pretending to be doors..."
At least I'm laughing now. I'll keep you posted.

I want a day like that around here! I want an old door so bad, and I can't seem to come across one. I don't know why I want a door, I just always have :o) Can't wait to see what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteThat door is screaming to be loved. Against a wall with a picture inside (kinda like a frame) would be good enough. But, you will think of something amazing!
ReplyDeletewelllll, you could make a back, sides and shelves and turn it into a bookcase, hutch or something simular, maybe????
ReplyDeleteLovely door. And what I wouldn't give to have curbside pickins! If you have the space, you could turn it into a tabletop. But I like Pipigirl's suggestion for bookshelves, too.
ReplyDeleteFirst off congrats to your City Council or whomever thought about making that a "law" for your town - and yea, I hate the doors in my house ... I miss my old, like OLD, house with the real heavy wood doors!! Have fun with this! Stopping in to follow from the blog hop - hope you have time to visit and return the favor soon. Ohhh ... and enter to win a free copy of my book too!!

Hi there, first of all it was great that you found such a fabulous door and it cost nothing and secondly that it sucks that you cannot use it in a regular setting. I'm sure there must be some DIY blogsites which would have some wonderful ideas, unfortunately I am not one of them. I recently found your blog and am now following. So I will be able to see just what you come up with. Please pop on over to mine and perhaps you would like to follow me also. I would really like that. Hugs, Chris
